10/5 to 10/6-Just the Factz Fling & Fly Report Treats 3 on Cam: Belle 3 including a gopher, Pearl 0. On the rare rainy, windy nights we tend to see fewer treats delivered.
Overnight Report... 12:45am to 4:30 am
Belle is 82 days, pEarl is 78 days today
12:49am - Pearl on roof; Belle to HP then to roof with Pearl
01:00am - Both still hanging out on roof
1:05am - One (can't id which) flies away
1:13am - Screech in distance almost like "alarm" call... other owl on roof (can't id which) flies away immeidiately
1:16am - Belle back, lands on HP
1:20am - Belle back to roof
1:36am - Delivery on roof, huge gopher to Belle
Belle takes it to HP, then to porch, then inside.
Much to big to eat, she shreds and eats for quite some time
1:54am - Finally small enough to swallow whole, and Belle downs it
1:55am - Belle goes to her spot on right end of porch
2:03am - Medium gopher delivery by Roy to Belle on porch
Belle has absolutely no interest in eating, "fiddles" with it about 10
minutes-- first takes it inside, puts it in each corner, doesn't like it,
takes it back outside to HP on left, and finally stashes it out on porch
to far left end, not far from door
2:15am Belle back on end of porch, barely calling
infrequently, probably afraid another treat will come
2:30am Delivery, small gopher, to Belle on porch
Belle immediately takes inside, puts it in far left corner
2:35am Belle back outside, sits mostly on right end of pourch until after 4am
4:12am Belle suddenly runs to outside gopher, hissing loudly, picks it
up, takes inside, then fools with 2 gophers in back corner for about 5
minutes, and finally stacks one on top of the other-- then goes to door,
still squawking loudly, and does so for about 10 minutes.
I don't know what this was all about. She didn't seem scared
as the noises were not the defensive screech or defensive long
hisses, and she likewise didn't get in defensive posture at all.
It sounded more like the sounds they make when extremely excited
over food or eating. Then she just goes out on porch like nothing
happened and goes to her spot on end of porch.
4:30am Belle on porch, 2 gophers inside, no sign of Pearl; also no
flyovers that I noticed
Early inbound mods reported that Pearl did return, before sunrise, not sure when
?:??am Pearl flew away
6:20am Belle flew away
Thanks to hundon for overnight help.
Additional Note: Belle was still really wet when she went in the box at 1-something
with treat-LoneStar

Belle is too full from her first treat to eat this one so she "stashes" it in the "porch pantry" on the left corner of the Hideout! She resumes her place on the end of the porch!

Belle remains in defense mode while trying to decide what to do with her stash of treats! She eventually puts them both in the left corner pantry and goes back outside to her spot on the end of the porch!

12 barn owl fascinating facts
Discover 12 fascinating facts about the beautiful barn owl.
1 The barn owl was voted Britain’s favourite farmland bird by the public in an RSPB poll in July 2007.
2 Historically, the barn owl was Britain’s most common owl species, but today only one farm in about 75 can boast a barn owl nest.
3 Barn owls screech, not hoot (that’s tawny owls).
4 The barn owl can fly almost silently. This enables it to hear the slightest sounds made by its rodent prey hidden in deep vegetation while it’s flying up to three metres overhead.
5 The barn owl’s heart-shaped face collects sound in the same way as human ears. Its hearing is the most sensitive of any creature tested.
6 Barn owls are non-territorial. Adults live in overlapping home ranges, each one covering approximately 5,000 hectares. That’s a staggering 12,500 acres or 7,100 football pitches!
7 It’s not uncommon for barn owl chicks in the nest to feed each other. This behaviour is incredibly rare in birds.
8 In order to live and breed, a pair of barn owls needs to eat around 5,000 prey items a year. These are mainly field voles, wood mice, and common shrews.
9 Though barn owls are capable of producing three broods of five to seven young each year, most breed only once and produce, on average, only two and a half young. 29 per cent of nests produce no young at all.
10 91 per cent of barn owls post-mortemed were found to contain rat poison. Some owls die as a direct result of consuming rodenticides, but most contain sub-lethal doses. The effects of this remain unknown.
11 In a typical year, around 3,000 juvenile barn owls are killed on Britain’s motorways, dual carriageways and other trunk roads. That’s about a third of all the young that fledge.
12 Everyone can help barn owls. Leave a patch of rough grassland to grow wild thus creating habitat for voles, erect a super-safe deep nest box, volunteer for your local barn owl group, switch to non-toxic rodent control
